New D-Man Smith Comments
r Kelownarockets.com recently caught up with Kevin Smith, the 19-year-old defenceman acquired by the Rockets for fellow 19-year-old Collin Bowman.
r
r A North Vancouver native, Smith played his minor hockey at the North Shore Winter Club along with Bowman and current Rockets forward Spencer Main.
r
r Reporter Kevin Parnell talked with Smith about the trade and his new team.
r
r Parnell: First off welcome to Kelowna Kevin. What are your thoughts on being acquired by the Rockets?
r
r Smith: It's great. It will be a good opportunity for me. It’s a lot closer to home which is nice. I'm really excited to be there. I couldn’t have asked to go to a better organization.
r
r Parnell: You're pretty familiar with a few current Rockets from growing up in BC.
r
r Smith: I played with Collin for two years back in bantam. I know he’s going to have a good time in Moose Jaw. I think everyone will be happy with this trade. I played minor hockey in North Van and played with Spencer Main and Bowman and we played against Tyson Barrie quite a bit.
r
r Parnell: For fans who haven't seen you play much, what can they expect out of Kevin Smith?
r
r Smith: I like to step up in the play whenever I can. I like to think that I’m a good defensive player but the way I contribute is offensively. I think I see the ice pretty well and I think I will mesh pretty well with the defencemen you already have out here.
r
r Parnell: What are your thoughts on coming back to BC where you grew up and played your minor hockey?
r
r
r Smith: I’m extremely happy to come back to BC. I couldn’t have asked to come to a better team. Kelowna has a great track record and I’m really excited about possibly playing here for two years.
