ICE EDGE WINTERHAWKS IN OVERTIME – Joe Antilla scored 6:12 into overtime to lift the Kootenay Ice to a 3-2 win over the visiting Portland Winterhawks in Game 3 of the 2011 WHL Championship series on Tuesday night.
It’s the second overtime winner of the 2011 WHL playoffs for Antilla, who also scored the extra-time winner in Game 2 versus the Saskatoon Blades in the second round, and puts the Ice up 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.
Kevin King and Drew Czerwonka also scored for the Ice, who opened the scoring on King’s goal late in the first period then tied the game at 2-2 with Czerwonka’s tally 14 minutes into the third period after the Hawks skated to a 2-1 lead.
Ty Rattie and Sven Bartschi – with his fifth goal of the WHL Championship series – scored for the Winterhawks, who were 0-for-1 on the man advantage in the contest.
Nathan Lieuwen made 34 saves to claim his 14th win of the playoffs for the Ice. Mac Carruth made 38 saves in a losing cause for the Winterhawks.
The Ice host the Winterhawks for Game 4 of the best-of-seven series on Wednesday in Cranbrook, B.C.
