Mississauga, ON – The Kootenay Ice saw their 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament come to an end with a 3-1 loss to the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in the semi-final game on Friday night in Mississauga, ON.
Devante Smith-Pelly scored both goals for the tournament host Majors, who advance to meet the QMJHL Champion Saint John Sea Dogs in the championship game on Sunday.
Joe Antilla scored the lone marker for the Ice, who started the tournament with two losses before winning their final round robin contest and then winning the tiebreaker on Thursday.
JP Anderson stopped 28 of 29 shots to backstop the Majors to the win, while Nathan Lieuwen stopped 23 of 25 shots in a losing cause for Kootenay.
Chris DeSousa, with an empty-net marker, also scored for the St. Michael’s Majors, who went 1-for-5 on the power play while killing off six of seven Kootenay opportunities.
The Majors will meet the Sea Dogs in the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup final on Sunday (5:00pm MST; Rogers Sportsnet).
