Underway: Rockets and Silvertips in Kelowna

Goalie Adam Brown had all the answers Friday night for the Kelowna Rockets as the Rockets earned a 4-3 shootout win over the Everett Silvertips at Prospera Place in Kelowna.
Brown stopped all three Everett shooters in the shootout and was superb in regulation stopping 36 of 39 ‘Tips shots en route to the win.
Mitchell Callahan scored twice to lead the offense while Tyson Barrie scored in regulation and in the shootout to help Kelowna to the win.
Kelowna had the best chances in the five minute overtime before winning the game in the shootout. Barrie was the only player to score from either team in the shootout.
The game was tied 1-1 through 40 minutes before the teams combined for four goals in the third period.
Callahan put the Rockets ahead in the first minute of the third. After Zach Franko’s centreing pass hit a skate, Callahan one-timed a loose puck into the net for his fourth goal of the season, 46 seconds into the third.
The Rockets took a 3-1 lead when Franko and Callahan combined on the Rockets third goal as well as Callahan deflected Franko’s shot on a Rockets power play at 6:11.
Minutes earlier Brown kept the game 2-1 when he stopped two breakaways on a different Rockets’ power play.
Everett’s Manraj Hayer brought the Silvertips back within one when he banged home a rebound at 9:33 of the third period, making the score 3-2. Then on a 5 on 3 power play Tyler Maxwell knotted the game at 3-3.
Kelowna opened the scoring on an early power play in the first period when Barrie’s wrist-shot from the top of the circles bulged the twine for his first of the season at 4:55 of the first. Callahan wasn’t on the ice but could have earned an assist as he drew the Everett penalty when he steamrolled a Silvertips’ defender before being challenged to a fight, drawing the instigator penalty.
A few minutes later Brown stopped Scott MacDonald on a short-handed 2-on-1 while on another Rockets’ power play. Later Brown would flash out his left pad and stop Landon Ferraro on a Silvertips’ power play.
Ferraro beat brown high to the glove side off of a face-off in the Kelowna zone with under five minutes to play in the first to tie the game 1-1 at 16:17 of the period.
