The Kelowna Rockets will play their final two games this weekend before the holiday break. They’ll face the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night and the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday, puck drop is set for 6:00 pm PT on both nights.
The Rockets last saw both teams during the 2019-20 season, hosting them both at Prospera Place. Medicine Hat outpaced Kelowna 8-5 in a track meet on November 8, 2019, while the Rockets downed the Hurricanes 5-4 on March 7, 2020.
Kelowna snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a 5-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos. Rockets leading scorer Andrew Cristall led the charge posting four points (2G, 2A), it was the 17-year-old’s 15th multi-point game of the season. Goaltender Jari Kykkanen was peppered, turning aside 47 of the 49 shots fired at him.
As of Friday morning, Lethbridge is riding a five-game winning streak. They were last in action on Wednesday, defeating the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-1.
Medicine Hat will host Red Deer on Friday before the Rockets roll in on Saturday.
Players to watch
Kelowna
- Andrew Cristall posted a four-point game (2G, 2A), earning himself first-star honors in Wednesday’s win over Swift Current. He currently sits second in league scoring.
- Goaltender Jari Kykkanen faced a career-high 49 shots on Wednesday, setting a new career best with 47 saves.
- Defenceman Caden Price recorded a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s game.
Lethbridge
- Overage forward Jett Jones leads the Hurricanes in points with 29 (14G, 15A) through 31 games this season.
- Noah Chadwick and Logan Wormald were both named to the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Players to Watch List as ‘C’ ranked prospects.
- Winger Miguel Marques was selected tenth overall by Lethbridge in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
Medicine Hat
- Overage forward Brendan Lee leads the Tigers in points with 33 (18G, 15A) through 33 games this season.
- Oasiz Wiesblatt is the younger brother of San Jose Sharks 2020 first-round pick Ozzy Wiesblatt
- Fifteen-year-old Gavin McKenna is listed on the Tigers roster, he was selected first overall by the Tigers in 2022. He has six assists in eight games as an affiliate player this season.
