Former Rocket Simon Ferguson named interim head coach of West Kelowna Warriors
The BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors announced today that they have hired Rockets alumni Simon Ferguson as their interim head coach.
Ferguson takes over the Warriors coaching duties after coaching the Okanagan Rockets Major Midget team for the last two seasons.
“We are charting a new course and building a new culture. Simon Ferguson has impressed us with his ability to lead, his hockey acumen, and his energy. We expect our players to respond well to his leadership and we look forward to supporting him in every way,” said Warriors owners John Murphy and Rod Hume in a press release from the team.
He started his junior career with the Lethbridge Hurricanes before being acquired at the 2003 trade deadline by the Kelowna Rockets. Ferguson played 134 games in a Rockets jersey including the 2003-04 Memorial Cup championship team.
He played in over 500 professional games between the American Hockey League, the ECHL, and Europe.
Ferguson’s first game behind the Warriors bench will be Friday, January 3 when the Warriors host the Coquitlam Express.
