Americans Come Back to Sting Kelowna 3-2
Nov. 16, 2012 – Kennewick, Washington
The Tri-City Americans defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 on Friday night in Kennewick, Washington, opening up a double-header weekend between the two teams.
The Americans scored three unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 2-0 Rockets’ lead and earn the win. Goalie Eric Comrie made 41 saves in the win as the Rockets outshot Tri-City 43-22.
Parker Bowles, Connor Rankin and Justin Feser scored for the Americans in front of 3,769 fans in Tri-City.
“(Comrie) had quite the night for his team and gave them an opportunity to hang around in the third,” said Rockets assistant coach Dan Lambert on the AM 1150 post game show. “We made a couple soft plays, a couple selfish plays, and the next thing you know they capitalize on all of their chances.”
The Rockets took a 2-0 lead after two periods of play on goals by Ryan Olsen and Myles Bell. After a scoreless first, Bell opened the scoring with his 12th of the season before Olson scored his 10th as the Rockets struck with two goals in 4:31.
The loss ended a five game winning streak for the Rockets who fell to 12-7-1-1 on the season.
Kelowna and Tri-City will meet again Saturday night at the Toyota Centre in Kennewick as the teams play a double-header weekend.
“We have to make sure we come out the same way tomorrow night and bury our chances,” said Lambert. “We don’t want to change our game. Our D has to remember that you don’t beat teams by playing 40 minutes.”
The Rockets return home to Prospera Place for games Friday (Regina) and Saturday (Saskatoon).
