Rockets Alumni rolling into Kelowna for fundraiser
Kelowna Rockets alumni from virtually every era of the Rockets past are converging on Kelowna this week as the franchise hosts its annual Rockets Alumni Weekend to raise money for the Kelowna General Hospital orthopedic ward.
The Rockets are in the final year of a commitment to raise $200,000 for the orthopedic ward and are expected to surpass its goal this year, bringing the total raised at the event to close to $400,000 since its inception.
Rockets defencemen Shea Weber and Josh Gorges will be in attendance at the event as will Jamie Benn and Brandon McMillan, Tyler Spurgeon and many more.
The tournament has taken a different form this year, with the addition of a VIP auction on Thursday night at the Eldorado before Friday’s Texas Scramble golf tournament. The hockey game portion of the event had to be cancelled this year.
As always the event will feature many great names from Rockets past teams, from Vern Fiddler and Jason Deleurme to new Rockets assistant coach Kris Mallette, who played in the early years in Kelowna, in Memorial Arena.
Tyson Barrie and Colton Sissons, Coldy Almond, Tyler Mosienko, Adam Brown, Dillon Hood, MacKenzie Johnston, Brett Lyon will also be in attendance as will several players from the current Rockets team including Tyson Baillie Carter Rigby and Jackson Whistle.
