OHL 20 in 20 Futures Watch: Windsor Spitfires
The Windsor Spitfires are set to add offensively gifted attacker Wyatt Johnston to a blossoming forward corps built around soon-to-be sophomores Will Cuylle and Jean-Luc Foudy. Add newly recruited Nashville Predators second round pick Egor Afanasyev into the mix and Windsor’s 18th-ranked offence could be in for a big boost.
Taken with the sixth overall pick of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, Johnston comes off a 94 point (48-46–94) season with the Toronto Marlboros before turning heads at the OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour, registering 13 points (5-8–13) over five contests.
While Johnston will be one to watch out of the gate in 2019-20, the Spits also added some sandpaper in hard working second round (41st overall) pick Pasquale Zito. The Mississauga Rebels forward proved versatile, playing down the middle while putting up 10 points (6-4–10) over six OHL Cup contests. The Ottawa, Ont. native scored the game winning goal in the championship game for Team GTHL Blue at the 2019 OHL Gold Cup.
The Spits set their sights on the blue line in rounds four and five, picking up steady Oakville Rangers defender James Jodoin at 67th overall before selecting another right-shot rearguard in Isa Parekh of the North York Rangers at 95th overall.
Windsor scooped up Zito’s Mississauga Rebels teammate Max Donohoe with the sixth round (104th overall) pick.
Johnston, Zito and Jodoin have all committed to the club for the 2019-20 season.
