OHL Mourns the Loss of Gord McCoy
The Ontario Hockey League is saddened by the loss of long-time Ottawa 67’s off-ice official, former crew chief and linesman Gord McCoy who passed away on Thursday at the age of 77.
Also serving as an off-ice official for the Ottawa Senators for many years, McCoy was a crew chief for the 67’s dating back to the early 1970’s when he served in various roles including timekeeper, scorekeeper and goal judge. He’s been a long-time fixture as goal judge behind the home team net at TD Place Arena.
Also of note, McCoy skated as a linesman in the infancy of the 67’s franchise, working games for a brief period starting in 1967.
Having witnessed franchise greats like Peter Lee, Bobby Smith and Denis Potvin, McCoy’s tenure also included a 67’s Memorial Cup title on home ice in 1999. His years as an off-ice official also included working for the Ottawa School Board as well as time spent employed by Custom Welding.
The League’s thoughts and condolences are with Gord’s wife Rosemary and family at this time.
