Wednesday Highlights: Western Conference leaders score key wins

Making his OHL debut, William Nicholl scored his first career goal to tie the game in the third period.
Denver Barkey in his 100th career OHL game completed the Knights’ comeback scoring with less than a minute to go.
Zach Bowen made 31 saves to earn his 11th consecutive win.
Brett Brochu did not dress after leaving Monday’s game after the second period.
Montreal Canadiens prospect Filip Mešár scored twice for Kitchener, his fourth multi-goal game of the season.

Windsor Spitfires 9, Flint Firebirds 3

With three assists, Matthew Maggio became the first OHLer to score 80 points on the season reaching 82 by the time the final buzzer sounded.
The assists also extended the Spitfires captain’s point streak to 13 games, the fifth longest such streak in the OHL this season.
Alex Christopoulos scored his first career hat trick.
Boston Bruins prospect, Brett Harrison, was named the first star with five points (2G, 3 Primary A)
Ryan Abraham had three assists in his return from injury, playing for the first time since Nov. 25th.
Alec Stewart made his OHL debut for Windsor. The 17-year-ld was Windsor’s third round pick in the 2022 OHL U18 Priority Selection.
The Spitfires continue to pace the OHL in scoring, with 6+ goals in their fifth consecutive contest and 240 overall, 27 more than the Battalion who have the second most in the league.
Matt Onuska returned from injury to back-up Joey Costanzo, dressing for the first time since Jan. 6th.

Rookie Zayne Parekh moved within one goal of Rick Corriveau’s OHL record of 19 goals by a 16 year old defenceman with his opening marker.
Roberto Mancini in his 150th game scored the game-winner in the final two minutes on the power play.
Saginaw’s penalty kill continues to struggle on home ice as they allowed two power play markers to the Otters on Wednesday. The Spirit’s penalty kill is 17th on home ice (74.2%) and number one on the road (85%)

Niagara IceDogs 3, Owen Sound Attack 9

A multi-goal game from Deni Goure matched his career-high with 24 on the year and was part of eight multi-point performances from the Attack in the victory.
Owen Sound outshot Niagara 52-22, led by Deni Goure’s eight.
LA Kings prospect Kaleb Lawrence was named the first star with a goal and two assists, a new career-high for the 6-foot-6 winger.
Andrew LeBlanc scored twice and added an assist, a new career-high for points in a game.
The loss was Niagara’s seventh in a row.
