Wednesday Highlights: Hounds chase down Wolves to snap skid

The Soo Greyhounds snapped a seven-game losing streak with a big 6-2 mid-week road win over the Sudbury Wolves. Alex Johnston (5,6) put the Greyhounds on the board with back to back goals, and Zack Trott followed up with his sixth of the season to lift his team up 3-0. Tanner Dickinson (2) notched the Soo’s fourth goal of the game minutes later, but not long before Sudbury responded with goals from Macauley Carson (4) and Carolina Hurricanes prospect Blake Murray (10). Tye Kartye (6) had a three-point night, rounding out the second period with another goal for the Greyhounds. Jaromir Pytlik (8), who sits third in scoring for the Greyhounds, finished the job with 7:42 left in the game. Greyhounds netminder Bailey Brkin stopped 29 of 31 shots in his OHL debut after coming over from the WHL through waivers, while Mitchell Weeks made 27 saves in net for Sudbury. 2020 NHL Draft prospect Quinton Byfield of Sudbury registered his 100th career OHL point in the loss, requiring just 85 games to do so.

SARNIA 5, FLINT 1
Jordan Kooy made an impressive career-high 50 saves to lead the Sarnia Sting to a 5-1 victory over the Flint Firebirds in the annual School Day match at the Dort Federal Event Center. Anthony Tabak opened the scoring just 2:25 in the first period, earning his second goal in his last two games. Kelton Hatcher (2,3) and Jacob Perreault (5,6) scored a pair of goals each, while Cody Morgan (5) notched the Firebirds’ lone goal. Sting centreman Jamieson Rees extended his point streak to 11 games with two assists, and defenceman Colton Kammerer was back in action after missing nine games with an upper-body injury. Flint netminder Anthony Popovich made 30 saves as the Firebirds fall to 12-6-0. They remain at the top of the West Division with 24 points, a total they currently share with the Saginaw Spirit and Windsor Spitfires. The Sting have now won 10 of their last 11 matches and improve to 10-8-0.
