SARNIA, ON – General Manager, Nick Sinclair announced today that the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club has received a commitment from 2017 Major Midget second round selection, Marko Jakovljevic (yak-o-yev-ick). Marko is the first player to commit to the Sting from the inaugural Ontario Hockey League U18 Selection, which took place last April.
The Brantford, ON native spent the 2016-17 season with the Brantford 99ers Midget AAA program; registering 18 points (4 goals, 14 assists) in 32 games played. The 6’03” 192 lbs. defenceman also contributed 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 12 Alliance playoff games.
Jakovljevic is expected make his official Sting debut tonight when the Sting take on the Knights at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in the second half of a pre-season home-and-home series.
Sinclair comments today’s announcement, “We are happy to welcome Marko and the Jakovljevic family to the Sting organization. He was an intriguing player to watch and continued to progress throughout his season with Brantford. After a stand out rookie camp in April, he followed it up with an impactful main camp and has earned this opportunity. We look forward to helping in his continuous development as a member of the Sting.”
