Avalanche prospect Oskar Olausson commits to Colts
Barrie, ON – The Barrie Colts are pleased to announce they have received a commitment from Oskar Olausson, 2021 CHL Import Draft selection.
The Colts selected Olausson in the second round (118th overall) in the 2021 CHL Import Draft in late June. In July, Oskar was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft, 28th Overall.
“Oskar is a huge addition for us. He’s a big forward with a great scoring touch and Colts fans should be excited to watch him play this season. With him being a Colorado first round pick this year, it shows the talent we are adding for the season. We look forward to helping him continue in his development,” said Colts head coach and general manager Marty Williamson.
The 6-2, 181lb forward was a member of Sweden’s HV71 organization and saw action between the J20 SuperElit and Swedish Hockey League (SHL) squads. During action with the J20 club, Olausson compiled 27 points (14 Goals, 13 Assists) in 16 games played. While skating for the professional club in the SHL, Olausson registered 4 points (3 Goals, 1 Assist) in 16 games played.
The Stockholm, Sweden, native represented his country at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, appearing in four games at the tournament. He helped Sweden capture a bronze medal at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, recording a point (1 Goal) in five tournament contests.
The Colorado Avalanche announced on August 6th, 2021 they signed Olausson to a three-year entry-level contract. “He’s a big, real mobile, good-skating winger, who has a great shot and a knack for scoring goals,” said Colorado Avalanche executive vice president and general manager Joe Sakic.
