Roman Schmidt

Roman was the Rangers’ second-round selection (36th overall) in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Schmidt was born in Michigan, where his parents Ottawa figure skater Derek Schmidt and Elizaveta Stekolnikova, a two-time Olympic ice dancer from Kazakhstan began their figure skating coaching careers. Prior to signing with the Rangers Roman played two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP). During his two year stint with the USNTDP, he played intra-squad and USHL games and recorded 16 goals, 34 assists, and 50 points in 147 games played. Schmidt represented The US on the Under-18 team at the 2020 World Juniors where he won the bronze medal.

Roman tallied his first OHL Goal at the Kitchener Rangers home opener against Guelph on October 8th. His first assist was registered on October 30th in Windsor. Schmidt signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 9th, 2021.
