Fans of the Ottawa 67’s were saying a collective, “Now, that’s more like it,” on Friday, watching the Barber Poles make it into the win column for the first time of the 2015-16 season, beating the Hamilton Bulldogs 5-1.
Overage veteran forward Sam Studnicka had a standout night on the Arena at TD Place ice, scoring a hat trick, his second three-goal game of his Ontario Hockey League career.
Studnicka’s third goal of the game came on a power play, Ottawa’s first score during a man-advantage this season in 22 attempts.
Evan de Haan and Travis Barron also scored for the 67’s. Dante Salituro picked up four assists, while veteran defenceman Nevin Guy added a pair of assists.
Leo Lazarev made 22 saves for the win for the 67’s, now 1-3 on the season.
The 67’s are back in action at the Arena at TD Place next Friday, October 9 against the defending Memorial Cup champion Oshawa Generals. Face-off is at 7 p.m.
