Four 67’s crack Central Scouting’s midterm rankings
Four Ottawa 67’s players have landed on NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings list, which was released Wednesday.
Forward Sasha Chmelevski and defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer, ranked 38th and 41st, respectively, were projected by the scouting service to be selected in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Forward Austen Keating, meanwhile, was ranked in the 92nd spot and projected to go in the third round.
Goalie Olivier Lafreniere also cracked the list as Central Scouting ranked him 27th among North American netminders.
The top-ranked OHL player is Windsor forward Gabriel Vilardi, who sits in third. Nolan Patrick from the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings and Nico Hischier of the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads, sit in first and second, respectively.
Chmelevski, Ottawa’s leading scorer and the centerpiece of the deal that sent Travis Konecny to Sarnia last year, has 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points in 34 games this year. Hoefenmayer took a big step forward this season and has been a steady presence on the 67’s blueline, notching eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 37 games along the way. Keating has been producing at nearly a point-per-game pace this season with 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points in 42 games.
In splitting goaltending duties with Leo Lazarev this season, Lafreniere has given the 67’s a solid one-two punch at the position. In 23 appearances this year, Lafreniere has an 8-8-4 record, a 3.45 goals-against average and a 0.904 save percentage.
The 67’s kick off another three-game road swing on Thursday night when they visit the Windsor Spitfires, followed by the London Knights and the Kitchener Rangers before returning home to kick off a seven-game homestand on Jan. 24 against Mississauga.
