On The Rebound
The Winterhawks and Giants battled to a tense 3-1 finish in Langley on Friday – unfortunately, not in favor of the visitors. Brett Mirwald stood on his head with 37 saves in Vancouver’s net as Josh Mori bagged Portland’s lone goal. Trade acquisitions Tyson Zimmer (1G) and Connor Levis (2A) played a big role in the Giants’ first win over the Winterhawks this season.
Now, the teams face off at the VMC, where the Winterhawks are 10-1-0-0 since the holiday break – including a 3-0 shutout against Vancouver on New Year’s Eve. Portland will be keen to respond against Vancouver, particularly as the team looks to build momentum ahead of a road rematch against Everett on Sunday. Look for added emphasis on getting the game’s first goal in front of what should be a vibrant VMC as always.
Playoffs On The Horizon
Despite Friday’s result, Portland remains one point away from clinching its spot in the 2024 WHL Playoffs. The script is the same as last night – a Winterhawks victory or OT loss tonight gets them in, as would any Tri-City loss in Spokane this evening.
Bring the noise and help the boys seal their place in the postseason! Let’s go Hawks!
