WHEATIES PREPARE FOR IMPORT DRAFT
Toronto, Ontario — The Brandon Wheat Kings have released 19-year old Slovakian born right-winger Richard Jasovsky on the eve of Wednesday’s Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.r
r
A former first round Import pick, Jasovsky scored eight goals and 12 points in 49 games this past season and went without a point in nine playoff games. r
r
Jasovsky is now a free agent and will re-enter this year’s draft, where he could be picked up by any of the CHL’s 56 teams. Brandon’s other import last year – defenceman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen – recently came to terms with the National Hockey League’s Columbus Blue Jackets.r
r
As a result, the Wheat Kings will now have the opportunity to select twice – 10th and 13th overall – in Wednesday’s proceedings.r
r
“I think that at ten and thirteen, we want to be open to select real good players, if they’re available,” Brandon general manager Kelly McCrimmon told the Brandon Sun. “It doesn’t mean we are going to get the opportunity, but have to be positioned so that if they are there, we can pick them.”r
r
Brandon obtained the tenth overall pick by virtue of their 16th place finish in the WHL during the regular season. As for the 13th overall selection, McCrimmon acquired that in last October’s trade with Prince George involving Brett Dickie.r
r
The Saskatoon Blades, who won just seven games this past year, will select first overall, at 8 a.m. Manitoba time. r
