ROYALS TOP CHIEFS IN GAME 1
Victoria defeats Spokane 5-3 to take 1-0 series lead.

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals scored three goals in the third period to down the Spokane Chiefs 5-3 and take a 1-0 series lead in Round 1 of the 2016 WHL Playoffs.
Victoria’s Dante Hannoun registered the game winning goal on the powerplay to make it a 4-2 contest with eight minutes remaining in the third period. The Royals’ Tyler Soy scored two goals on the night, with his second of the game on an empty net to add insurance. The Chiefs closed to within two markers on a late goal by Hayden Ostir to round out the scoring. Victoria’s Logan Fisher broke a 2-2 in the final frame. Joe Hicketts, who was named the game’s first star (1g-2a), scored the Royals’ other marker. Spokane’s other tallies were registered by Keanu Yamamoto, Hudson Elynuik.
Royals’ netminder Coleman Vollrath turned aside 24 of the 27 shots he faced. The Chiefs countered with Lasse Petersen who stopped 26 of 30 shots.
Victoria went 1/3= 33.3% with the man advantage, while Spokane held a 1/5= 20.0% mark.
