Igor Revenko Off to World Juniors – Group A
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – Prince Albert Raiders right winger Igor Revenko has left the team to play with Team Belarus at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships – Group A, in Herisau, Switzerland, starting Sunday. 18 year-old Revenko is 5 players currently playing in the Canadian Hockey League, but the only Western Hockey League player, on the Belarus roster.
18 year old Revenko was second in overall scoring at the World Under 18 Championships in Russia in the spring, where he had 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points in 6 games for Belarus.
Belarus begins the round robin tournament against Poland Sunday, then play France Dec.16, Slovenia Dec.17 and Switzerland Dec. 20. The top two teams from this tournament advance to the Top Division for the 2010 World Junior Championships in Regina and Saskatoon.
Revenko will miss the Raiders next four games, Friday against Red Deer, Saturday in Brandon, then Dec.16 at Moose Jaw and Dec.17 home to Calgary, but is expected to return in time for their Dec. 27 contest against Saskatoon at the Art Hauser Centre.
Voracek Update
18 year-old defenceman Tomas Voracek will not be available for the evaluation camp for the Czech Republic’s World Junior Championship team. Voracek has recently undergone surgery on his nose, which he broke while practicing with a Men’s League team, and although he was one of 16 players named to the camp, will not be able to attend.
Voracek remains in Ostrava, Czech Republic, tending to his mother who is ill.
