Team Green beats Team White 6-2 to wrap up training camp
The annual Green & White game drew in a nice crowd on Monday morning at the Art Hauser Centre. Fans in attendance got to see Team Green pick up a 6-2 win over Team White. Before the game, and mountain of food and money donations were collected for the Prince Albert Food Bank.
Mikey Thomas opened the scoring for Team White early in the first period. After a shot from Dayce Derkatch was stopped, the rebound was kicked right to Thomas, who buried a goal to give White a 1-0 lead.
Around eight minutes later, Team Green tied things up. Luke Moroz, who had an impressive training camp on the scoresheet, scored for Green to make it a 1-1 game with 7:26 left in the opening frame. Not long after that, newly signed import forward Matej Kubiesa fired a shot home to give Green a 2-1 lead. That score would stay the same heading into the second period.
The two teams split goals in the second period, with Liam Bursaw scoring the opening goal of the middle frame to give Green a 3-1 lead. Oli Chenier responded later in the frame to pull white back to within one, making it a 3-2 score after 40 minutes.
In the third period, Kubiesa added a second goal as part of a three-goal period for Team Green, who ran away with the game late to win by a 6-2 final. Brayden Dube and Landen Sitarz also had goals in the third period for Team Green.
The win for Green wrapped up the 2023 Raider training camp. It will be a quick turnaround for the green and gold now, as the team kicks off the 2023 pre-season on Wednesday against the Saskatoon Blades in Big River First Nation. Puck drop for the second annual contest is slated for 1pm. The Raiders’ first pre-season game at the Art Hauser Centre is coming up this Saturday night, also against the Blades. Puck drop for that game is 7pm.
