Siemens headed to World Junior Evaluation Camp
Saskatoon Blades defenceman Duncan Siemens is off to Team Canada’s World Junior Summer Development Camp. It runs until Sunday in Edmonton and Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Siemens, the 11th overall choice in this summer’s NHL entry draft, was one of 46 players invited to the summer evaluation. That list includes 12 other WHL players. It’s been a busy summer for Siemens, who was drafted into the NHL by the Colorado Avalanche. We had a chance to catch up with him recently to talk about his summer and the Team Canada camp.
How does it feel to get invited to this Team Canada evaluation camp?
“It’s very exciting and a great honour. Any time you get the opportunity to possibly represent your country it makes you feel very proud and excited.”
What are your goals for the camp?
“I just want to go out and compete hard and play my best. I am just hoping to leave a good impression on the Team Canada staff.”
What did it mean to get drafted into the National Hockey League?
“It’s a great honour and the start of a dream that I have had since I was very young.”
It’s been a busy summer for you, attending press conferences and prospect camp in Denver, Colorado. What have you done besides training?
“I’ve taken some time to rest and relax. I’ve mostly just been around home, working, golfing and spending time with friends and family. I’m also excited to get back to Saskatoon and get the new year underway.”
