Tri-City Herald: Americans pound Swift Current
By Annie Fowler | Tri-City Herald
When Tri-City coach Jim Hiller put Adam Hughesman, Brendan Shinnimin and Connor Rankin on the top line at the start of the season, he envisioned great things.
The fireworks have been intermittent, but Friday night Hughesman had two goals and an assist, and Brendan Shinnimin and Rankin combined for one goal and four assists to lead the Americans to a 5-1 victory over Swift Current before a crowd of 4,686 at Toyota Center.
“They played stretched together last year and had success,” said Hiller, whose team has won three in a row. “We don’t have to rely on one line, but when they get going, they are dangerous. Connor had his best game of the year. He has been struggling, but tonight he was outstanding.”
With the win, the Americans (18-6-0-0, 36 points) kept a two-point lead over Portland in the U.S. Division and Western Conference.
