Knights Battle Winterhawks On Monday
SASKATOON, SK – Bo Horvat and the London Knights take on Ty Rattie and the Portland Winterhawks for Game 4 of round robin action at the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament on Monday night in Saskatoon, SK. (6:00pm MT; 8:00pm ET Sportsnet).
Monday’s contest between the Knights and the Winterhawks will be a battle between the No. 2 and 3-ranked teams in the CHL, with the Hawks ranked 2nd and the Knights slotting in at 3rd.
The Knights, the OHL Champions, opened the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament with a 3-2 win over the host Saskatoon Blades on Friday night. Anthony Stolarz turned in a 27-save effort in their win over the Blades on Friday while veteran Seth Griffith finished the contest with a goal and an assist. In a tight, competitive contest, the Knights won it with a third-period goal from defenceman Nikita Zadorov, who pinched in to bury a rebound on a third-period power play.
The WHL Champion Winterhawks suffered a 7-4 loss to the QMJHL Champion Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday night in a game that featured plenty of goals and wide-open play. The Winterhawks’ top line of Ty Rattie, Brendan Leipsic and Nic Petan enjoyed a strong performance in the loss, with Rattie netting a highlight-reel goal and two assists. Defencemen Troy Rutkowski – with two – and Seth Jones also scored in the loss.
A victory by London on Monday would put the Knights in the tournament semi-final next Friday. The Winterhawks, however, need a win on Monday to avoid having to play for their tournament lives on Wednesday versus Saskatoon.
