Connor McDavid is turning heads and breaking records.
The Erie captain set a new Otters franchise record on Friday, becoming the first player to score five goals in a playoff contest as he led Erie to a 7-3 Game 2 victory over the London Knights. Watch #ERvsLDN
The Otters take a 2-0 series lead, getting additional goals from Jake Marchment and Taylor Raddysh. Dallas Stars prospect Remi Elie had three assists while Patrick Murphy added two of his own. The Knights responded with goals from Chandler Yakimowicz, Aaron Berisha and Jack Hidi.
The Otters outshot the Knights, who were missing injured forwards Max Domi and Mitchell Marner, 42-24 in front of 5,060 at Erie Insurance Arena.
The Eastern Conference Semi-Finals got underway on Friday with the North Bay Battalion visiting the Barrie Colts and the Niagara IceDogs taking on the Oshawa Generals.
In Barrie, Joseph Blandisi’s third period marker stood as the difference maker as the Colts rode to a 3-2 win over the Battalion. Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood was sharp in the crease, turning aside 34 of the 36 shots he faced while other Barrie goals came from Andrew Mangiapane and veteran blueliner Jonathan Laser. North Bay had goals from Nick Moutrey and Ryan Kujawinski as they outshot Barrie 36-30.
Winnipeg Jets prospect Brendan Lemieux returned to the Colts lineup for the first time since suffering an upper body injury on March 5 and registered an assist in the victory.
In Oshawa, New York Islanders prospect Michael Dal Colle led the way with two goals and an assist as the Generals took a 1-0 series lead over the Niagara IceDogs with a 5-3 win. Watch #OSHvsNIAG
Hunter Smith, Michael McCarron and Mitchell Vande Sompel also scored for Oshawa while Cole Cassels and defenceman Dakota Mermis each registered two assists.
The IceDogs played much of the game with five defencemen after losing Vince Dunn midway through the opening frame. They made things interesting late in the third period as goals from Johnny Corneil and Carter Verhaeghe narrowed Oshawa’s lead to two in the final five minutes.
The OHL Playoffs resume on Sunday with all eight teams in action.
