Wolves hire Michael Lawrence as Goaltending Coach
(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that Michael Lawrence has rejoined the organization as the team’s Goalie Coach.
“We are very happy to add Michael and welcome him back to the Sudbury Wolves,” said Wolves VP and General Manager Rob Papineau. “He brings a wealth of experience to our hockey club in one of the most important positions in the game. He comes highly recommended by many in the hockey industry including our very own Mike Foligno who worked closely with him on their run to the finals. Michael’s approach and presentation is very modern and advanced, and we know our staff and goalies will really enjoy his teaching methods and experience.”

Michael began his goalie coaching career here in Sudbury helping the Wolves reach the OHL finals during the 2006-2007 season. He continued developing and coaching goalies in the OHL for another five years before going on to work with talent in the NHL, AHL, ECHL and across Europe. Michael has established an extensive resume working with world-class goaltenders. While in Europe he worked very closely with the development of Elvis Merzlikins, goaltender of the Columbus Blue Jackets who has since played 191 NHL games. Michael won the Spengler Cup with Team Canada in 2015 and 2016. Michael is also the owner and head instructor of PRO Goaltending which operates in North America.
Papineau adds, “We would like to also thank Al Valiquette for his commitment and dedication to our team and our goalies over the past six seasons. He has many exciting things happening away from the rink and we wish him all the best with everything.”
