Saturday Highlights: Firebirds heating up
FLINT 7, KITCHENER 1
– The Flint Firebirds are winners of three straight for the first time this season as Sahil Panwar (2-1–3) and Tag Bertuzzi (1-2–3) each had three points and Ethan Keppen scored twice.
– Carson Rehkopf scored Kitchener’s lone goal.
– Flint outshot Kitchener 36-30 as Luke Cavallin made 29 saves for the win opposite Rangers rookie Jackson Parsons.
– The Firebirds are the League’s fourth team to win 20 games this season, improving to 20-13-0-2 for third place in the Western Conference.
– Kitchener falls to 14-16-1-1 for seventh in the Western Conference. This was Kitchener’s first road game since Dec. 11th.

BARRIE 3, NORTH BAY 2 – OT
– San Jose Sharks prospect Ethan Cardwell tipped-home a Brandt Clarke point shot for the OT winner 55 seconds into the extra period.
– Declan McDonnell and Beau Jelsma each had a goal and an assist for Barrie.
– Rookies Dalyn Wakely and Owen Outwater accounted for North Bay goals.
– Mack Guzda stopped 34 of 36 to improve to 9-2-0-0 in a Colts uniform. Battalion netminder Joe Vrbetic made 25 saves.
– Barrie climbs to within one point of fourth place in the Eastern Conference with an 18-9-3-0 record.
– The Battalion have lost seven of their last 10, falling to 19-12-3-2 for third in the Eastern Conference.
– Barrie has won five of seven matchups between the two teams this season.

– Frontenacs win at home on a second straight night as Martin Chromiak, Lucas Peric and Francesco Arcuri all scored twice.
– Jordan Frasca and Lucas Edmonds both had three assists while Shane Wright had two and went 14-for-15 in the faceoff circle.
– The Frontenacs racked up 52 shots, including 22 in the opening frame.
– Aidan Spooner made 26 saves for the win while Niagara’s Josh Rosenzweig made 46 saves.
– Kingston reclaims first place in the East Division, moving ahead of Hamilton with a 19-9-3-0 record.
– The IceDogs have dropped three straight, falling to 9-18-1-1 at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

– Down 3-1, London scored four unanswered with Dallas Stars prospect Antonio Stranges scoring the game winner with 6:18 left in the third.
– Stranges, Cody Morgan, Luke Evangelista and Sean McGurn all had a goal and an assist for the Knights.
– Jake Karabela, Michael Buchinger and Braeden Bowman scored Storm goals.
– Owen Flores stopped 20 of 23 for the win in goal while Guelph’s Owen Bennett made 28 saves.
– The win is London’s first against Guelph this season in five tries.
– The Knights tighten their grip on first in the Midwest Division, improving to 21-9-1-0.
– Guelph drops a third straight decision, falling to 18-10-2-1.
– The two clubs meet again on Sunday afternoon in London.

– 2022 NHL Draft prospect Pavel Mintyukov scored the shootout winner and Andrew Oke stopped all four shooters he faced as the Spirit took it 5-4.
– Dalton Duhart scored twice for Saginaw while Dean Loukus and Nick Wong each earned two assists.
– 2022 NHL Draft prospect Spencer Sova scored a pair of goals for Erie while Vancouver Canucks prospect Connor Lockhart had a goal and an assist.
– Erie outshot Saginaw 46-22 as Oke stopped a career-high 42 for the Spirit while Marshall Nicholls turned aside 18 in his third straight start for the Otters.
– Saginaw ends a five-game slide, improving to 14-18-1-0 for ninth in the Western Conference.
– The Otters sit four points back of Saginaw with an 11-18-1-2 record.
