2015 OHL HPHL Battle of the Border Recap

The second annual ‘Battle of the Border’ Minor Midget Showcase in partnership between the Ontario Hockey League and the High Performance Hockey League wrapped up Sunday following a three-day event at the Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre, home of the OHL’s Sarnia Sting.
The 12-team tournament featured teams from across Ontario, Detroit, and Illinois with players eligible for the 2016 OHL Priority Selection competing before scouts and fans in an 18-game showcase of Minor Midget talent.
The United States Division captured the ‘Battle of the Border’ title for the second straight year winning 34-20 with three points awarded for a regulation win, two points for a shootout win, and a single point for a shootout loss.
Teams representing Ontario included the host Lambton Jr. Sting (ALLIANCE), London Jr. Knights (ALLIANCE), Mississauga Rebels (GTHL), Toronto Marlies (GTHL), Toronto Titans (GTHL), and Whitby Wildcats (OMHA). Six teams from the HPHL will also compete including Chicago Mission, Chicago Young Americans, Detroit Compuware, Detroit Honeybaked, Detroit Little Caesars, and Team Illinois.
In addition to the action on the ice, the OHL held seminars and information sessions for players and their families, and the opportunity for all participants to see an OHL game when the Sting hosted the Guelph Storm on Saturday night.
Chicago Mission and Detroit Compuware led the way with undefeated play over the three-day showcase, while the London Jr. Knights were the top Ontario team playing to a pair of victories.
