Overtime Again!
For the second time in two nights, the Sudbury Wolves came back from a two goal deficit in the dying minute of the game only to lose in overtime. The Wolves trailed 4-2 to the Steelheads on Sunday before CONNOR CRISP scored on a power play with 32 seconds remaining on the clock. And then, for the second night in a row, NICK BAPTISTE scored with less than 5 seconds on the clock to send the frenzied Wolves into overtime.
Unfortunately, for the second night in a row, the Wolves took a penalty in overtime and similar to Saturday in Owen Sound, the Steelheads capitalized on the power-play to leave the Wolves with a single point.
NATHAN PANCEL scored in the first minute of the game to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead and then PANCEL scored with six seconds remaining in the first period to give the Wolves a 2-2 tie after the first. The Steelheads scored two unanswered goals in the second period to take a 4-2 lead into the third. The Wolves couldn’t get anything going offensively until the final 35 seconds of the game.
Wolves’ defenceman KYLE CAPOBIANCO recorded his first OHL point while MATHEW CAMPAGNA recorded two more assists to give the 19 year-old star forward a league-leading 8 assists and a total of 9 points-tops in the OHL.
FRANKY PALAZZESE stopped 26 of 31 shots that he faced while the Wolves fired 41 shots at Mississauga’s SPENCER MARTIN.
The overtime loss gives the Wolves a record of .500 with 1 win, 1 loss and 2 overtime losses for 4 points in their first four league games.
The Wolves return home to face the PETERBOROUGH PETES on Friday, October 4th as Sudbury native CAMERON LIZOTTE will make his OHL debut in Sudbury for the Petes.
