Players choose Carroll as Captain
There was a time Tyler Carroll had trouble cracking the Guelph Storm lineup. Now he’s its captain.
Carroll was elected by his teammates to wear the ‘C’ on his jersey this season. Peter Holland, Michael Latta and Taylor Beck are his assistants.
“I’m definitely honored. To have the respect of the boys in the room and the coaching staff, it’s nice,” the 20-year-old Strathroy native said Thursday.
The Storm practiced a the West End Community Centre Thursday in preparation for games against Niagara at home Friday, and in Sarnia on Saturday.
The Sleeman Centre was hosting a concert Thursday.
Carroll said he has been an assistant captain before, but never a captain.
“Any one of the four of us could have worn it, I’m just honoured to have the privilege,” he said.
Carroll, a relatively quiet presence around the rink, said he thinks the entire leadership group of veterans has enough people that like to talk, “but when I need to say something, I’ll step up and say it.”
He said being more vocal is something he will work on.
Carroll is in his fourth season with the Storm after being selected in the sixth round of the 2006 Priority Draft. Last year he had career highs in both goals (15) and points (39).
Storm coach Jason Brooks decided to let the players make the call this time.
