Midwest showdown goes to Storm
Wednesday night in Owen Sound, the Storm shut down the OHL’s top team as they handed the Attack a 3-0 defeat in a critical Midwest Division tilt. Garret Sparks earned his second shutout of the season kicking out 39 Owen Sound shots.
After a scoreless opening period, Brock Beukeboom created a neutral zone turnover in the first minute of the second and dished to Cody McNaughton for the eventual game winner. Matt Finn added an insurance marker later in the second to give the visitors a two goal advantage.
Looking to climb back in the third, the Attack’s Kyle Hope made the hill even bigger when he was handed a five minute major for a vicious check to the head of Tanner Richard. Already with three forwards on the shelf, Richard didn’t return to the ice after the hit. After killing off Hope’s penalty, the Attack found themselves down a man moments later and this time the Storm capitalized on Brock McGinn’s third of the season from Finn and Robby Fabbri.
Tomorrow night, the Sleeman Centre will be the focus of the hockey world when the Storm hosts the third game of the Subway Super Series in front of a sold out crowd at 7 pm. Then on Friday, it will be the West Division leading Sarnia Sting visiting Guelph for 7;30 puckdrop.
