PETES END KNIGHTS STREAK
The Peterborough Petes put an end to the London Knights’ nine-game winning streak by knocking off London 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Budweiser Gardens. The Petes played duck’s-back tight against London, and got a big day from goalie, Andrew D’Agostini as Peterborough won their third straight and fifth game out of six.
The only goal of the opening period belonged to Peterborough as Jonatan Tanus found a loose puck in the London zone and snapped it over the shoulder of Anthony Stolarz.
London outshot Peterborough 15-11, but Andrew D’Agostini and the Petes defense kept them off the scoreboard.
The Petes added to their lead in the second period as Anthony Stefano knocked in rebound to make it 2-0. The Knights seemed inches shy, time after time on passes and shots and trailed 2-0 after two.
The Knights would finally crack D’Agostini as Bo Horvat put a toe-drag move on a Petes’ defenseman and scored with 3:29 to go in the third period. The Knights pulled the goalie with under two minutes remaining, but the Petes got the puck to centre and as Horvat tried to play the puck, his stick broke and that allowed the Petes to skate down the ice 2-on-1. Nick Ritchie finished the play for his 35th goal of the season and that ended the scoring.
London outshot Peterborough 42-32.
London was 0-3 on the power play. The Petes were 0-2.
The Knights will host the Soo Greyhounds on Thursday at 7 PM.
