OHL ANNOUNCES SUSPENSION TO PLAYER TORRES, BRAMPTON BATTALION HOCKEY CLUB

Toronto — The Ontario Hockey League today announced the results of its review of an incident which occurred in a play-off game in Erie on the 7th of April, 2001 involving the Otters and the visiting Brampton Battalion Hockey Club.
r
r
The incident in question involved player Raffi Torres of the Brampton Battalion Hockey Club who was assessed a game misconduct penalty for clipping.
r
r
The review by the League encompassed consideration of the referee´s report, the game video for the game in question and the information gathered at a hearing conducted in Toronto on Monday, the 9th of April involving player Raffi Torres, representatives from the Brampton Battalion Hockey Club and representatives of the League including the Commissioner.
r
r
In making his announcement as the result of the review, Commissioner David Branch stated, "The League is of the opinion that player Raffi Torres physically interacted with an opposing Erie player as both players raced for the puck on a potential icing situation causing the Erie player to tumble into the end boards.
r
r
Fortunately, no serious injury was sustained and in fact the Erie player was able to play the very next evening for his hockey club.
r
r
It is the position of the Ontario Hockey League that player Raffi Torres be suspended for one (1) play-off game from his hockey club and given that Torres was ordered not to dress and play in this past Sunday´s game, he is now eligible to participate in his team´s next play-off game."
