WHL Player of the Week
r The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Brayden Schenn of the Brandon Wheat Kings.

r Schenn picked up seven points, scoring one goal and six assists in two games this past week, helping the Wheat Kings post a 2-0-0-0 road record in that span.
r
r On Friday, January 16th, the Wheat Kings hosted the Prince Albert Raiders at Westman Place in Brandon for the first half of their home-and-home weekend series. Schenn had four assists on the night as the Wheat Kings’ downed the Raiders 7-2. He was also named the games 1st Star.

r The next evening, Saturday, January 17th, it was the Raiders opportunity to host as the rematch was set in the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert. Schenn scored one goal and added two assists as the Wheaties swept the weekend series with a 7-4 victory. For the second night in a row he was also named the games 1st Star.

r Schenn’s seven points over the last two games has put him in 12th spot among all WHL scorers with 19 goals, 36 assists for 55 points in 43 games. With the two victories the Wheat Kings’ stretch their unbeaten in regulation streak to 13 games (11-0-2-0) and currently have sole procession of third place in the WHL Eastern Conference.

r Schenn, a 17 year-old forward from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is in his second season in the Western Hockey League with the Wheat Kings. This highly touted forward was named WHL Rookie of the Year last season and has been projected to be an early pick at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He also recently competed in the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game held last week in Oshawa, Ontario.

r The WHL has also nominated Dustin Tokarski of the Spokane Chiefs for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Tokarski posted a 3-0-0-0 record this past, allowing just four goals on 92 shots for a 1.300 goals-against average and .957 save percentage.

r Tokarski, a 19 year-old from Watson, Saskatchewan, is in his third season of play in the WHL with the Spokane Chiefs. Last season he was named the Memorial Cup MVP and recently helped lead Team Canada to its fifth straight World Junior Gold medal. He currently leads all WHL goaltenders with a 1.900 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.
