r In Kamloops, it’s Skate With The Blazers day on Monday, October 12th, when the Blazers host the Medicine Hat Tigers. Fans can lace up their skates and join the Blazers on the ice following the holiday Monday contest. Meanwhile, in Red Deer, fans will get the chance to Skate with the Rebels on Sunday, October 11th, when the team hosts the Brandon Wheat Kings.

r In Lethbridge, the Hurricanes are Coming Home, and will celebrate their opening game at the new and improved Enmax Centre when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday, October 9th. Fans are invited for a burger at a pre-game BBQ, with proceeds going to the United Way.

r In Portland, Winterhawks’ defenseman Brett Ponich has spearheaded a Fundraising Effort to help lifelong friend Tanner Hubbs, who was paralyzed following an accident in the summer. Ponich’s Winterhawks will be holding silent auctions at their weekend games versus the Tri-City Americans (Friday) and the Prince Albert Raiders (Saturday) in an effort to raise money for Hubbs and his family.

r In Spokane, to help celebrate the team’s 25th year in the community, the Chiefs will kick off 25th Anniversary Voting on Saturday night when the team hosts the Seattle Thunderbirds. Fans will get the chance to help select the top 25 Chiefs players of all time through a 3-month voting process.

r In Swift Current, the Broncos will mark KidSport night and Salvation Army Food Drive Night this weekend when the team hosts the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday and the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday.

r The Vancouver Giants host the Kelowna Rockets for a battle between fierce B.C. Division rivals on Friday night.

r The Giants have been idle since splitting a home-and-home series versus the Kamloops Blazers last weekend, and currently share first place in the B.C. Division with the Blazers. The Giants are 4-1-0-0 through their first five games on home ice this season, having won their last four home games.

r The Rockets are coming off a 6-5 shootout win over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday night to run their winning streak to four games, and currently sit three points behind the Giants and Blazers for first place in the B.C. Division. The Rockets dropped their first two road games of the season, but picked up a 7-2 win in their most recent away game in Chilliwack last Saturday.

r It’s the second meeting of the season between the Giants and Rockets. Vancouver pulled off a 6-5 overtime victory in Kelowna on September 17th in the opening game of the 2009-10 WHL season. Craig Cunningham scored the overtime winner on a penalty shot.
