Rockets Solid in 6-3 Road Win in Everett
Oct. 2, 2013 – Kelowna, BC
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Everett Silvertips 6-3 in Everett on Wednesday night, improving its record to 3-0-0-1 on the season.
Madison Bowey and rookie Nick Merkley each scored twice in the win while Zach Franko and Damon Severson also scored for the Rockets. Tyson Baillie and Tyrell Goulbourne each added two helpers.
“The guys played really well tonight,” said Rockets assistant coach Dan Lambert, on the AM1150 post game show. “That’s the team we know we have and the team that we want to see every single night. I thought the energy was much better than the last game. Really, it was the first time all year we’ve played a full 60 minutes.”
Jackson Whistle got his first start of the season and responded with a 23-save performance in earning the win. Kelowna outshot Everett 32-26
The Rockets are now coming back for what promises to be an exciting weekend as the Portland Winterhawks will be in Kelowna for games Friday and Saturday nights.
It’s the only time the Winterhawks, the defending WHL champions, will play in Kelowna this regular season. The ‘Hawks are ranked sixth this season in the CHL BMO Top 10 and have averaged six goals a game in their first four games.
“They are going to be a very, very good hockey team, we know that,” said Lambert. “They have a lot of skill. We know we have to play our best hockey to compete with them. It’s going to be a good challenge for us.”
Tickets are available for both games through Select Your Tickets online, at the box office or at 250-762-5050.
