Rockets Down Everett for 2nd Straight Win
Less than 24 hours after using overtime to secure its first win of the WHL season, the Kelowna Rockets got their first taste of a shootout this season and came out liking the result.
The Rockets defeated the Everett Silvertips 4-3 Sunday in Everett, scoring three times in the third period to force extra time before winning the game in the shootout.
Rookie goalie Jordon Cooke earned the win and was named the game’s first star, stopping 35 of 38 shots.
Mitchell Callahan scored twice while rookie Zach Franko scored with 1:05 to play in the third period to tie the game at 3-3.
Shane McColgan and Geordie Wudrick each scored in the shootout while Cooke stopped both shooters he faced as the Rockets improved on the season to 2-and-4.
Kelowna trailed in the game 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after two before Callahan sparked the comeback with the first of his pair of goals 4:46 into the third.
It was Kelowna’s second win of the weekend after its home ice win over Prince Albert in overtime on Saturday at Prospera Place.
The Rockets are back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Kamloops Blazers.
