Rockets-Thunderbirds
Jan. 29, 2012 – Seattle
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 in Seattle on Sunday, bouncing back and winning the second half of a home and home series between the two teams, after the T-Birds had won on Friday.
A four goal second period was the difference for the Rockets, who climbed to within one game of the .500 mark at 22-23-2-4.
“I thought we played a good road game and stuck to the game plan,” said Rockets assistant coach Ryan Cuthbert on the AM 1150 post game show. “Guys skated tonight. I think that was the biggest difference from the other night. Guys were flying tonight.”
Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Rockets scored four times in the second period, racing ahead to a 4-2 advantage. Damon Severson opened the onslaught with his 5th, before Cody Chikie scored his 12th, Colton Sissons with his team-leading 26th and Brett Lyon with his 13th.
Chase Lund, Luke Lockhart and Cason Machacek scored for the T-Birds.
Jordon Cooke earned the win in net as the Rockets outshot Seattle 43-27.
The Rockets will now prepare for a double-header next weekend in Prince George. The Rockets and Cougars will play next Friday and Saturday nights before returning to Prospera Place Feb. 8 against Seattle.
