Rockets Acquire Penticton’s Carter Rigby from PG

The Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League have acquired 17-year-old Penticton native Carter Rigby from the Prince George Cougars.

The Rockets acquired Rigby (’94) along with a conditional sixth round WHL bantam draft pick in exchange for a third round bantam draft pick in 2012.

“This was an opportunity for us to acquire a real good young player,” said Rockets general manager Bruce Hamilton. ‘”We’re looking forward to him getting here and we hope he can work his way into our lineup.”

Rigby, a 6-foot, 210 pound forward played three games with the Cougars last season but spent the majority of his season in junior B. In 26 games with Osoyoos of the KIJHL Rigby scored nearly two points a game, finishing the season with 22 goals and 43 points.

Rigby then joined Penticton of the BCHL for the final 10 games of the season, scoring one goal and adding six assists. In nine playoff games with Penticton he had two goals and three assists.

Rigby played 14 WHL games over the last two years, playing 11 games in 2009-10 and three games in 2010-11, all for the Prince George Cougars.
