r The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Chilliwack Bruins 7-2 Saturday night, winning its third straight Western Hockey League game and improving its record to 3-2-1-0.

r Rookie Jessey Astles opened the scoring with his first WHL goal while Stepan Novotny scored his league leading seventh of the season to lead the Rockets.

r First year players Brett Bulmer, with a pair, Shane McColgan and Cody Chikie also scored as did veteran Mitchell Callahan.

r Assistant coach Dan Lambert said it was nice to see the team’s rookies stepping up offensively.

r “Its great to see,” he told AM 1150 after the game. “Our older guys and leadership guys have been great. To see the young guys chip in like that…its very nice to see especially on the road.”

r It was the Rockets second win of the weekend over Chilliwack after a 6-4 win Friday night in Kelowna.

r The Rockets are back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Prince George Cougars at Prospera Place.
