r Here's the WHL press release about Tyson Barrie being named the league's player of the week. Barrie has 13 goals and 45 assists for 58 points in 45 games tied with the Giants Kevin Connauton, who has 58 points in 52 games.-Ed.

r The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is defenceman Tyson Barrie of the Kelowna Rockets.

r Barrie collected eight points, scoring four goals and four assists to go with a +2 rating, in four games over the past week, helping the Rockets post a 4-0-0-0 record in that span.
r
r On Wednesday, January 27th, the Rockets played host to the Seattle Thunderbirds. Barrie scored the game winning goal and added a pair of assists as the Rockets defeated the T-birds 4-2; he was also named the games 3rd Star. On Friday, January 29th the Prince George Cougars rolled into Kelowna to face the Rockets. Barrie scored twice in regulation and the winning shoot-out marker as the Rockets downed the Cougars 4-3, earning 1st Star honors. The next night, Saturday, January 30th, the Rockets welcomed the Medicine Hat Tigers to Prospera Place. Barrie netted a goal and an assist in the Rockets 7-2 win over the Tigers. The Rockets then travelled to Seattle for an afternoon match-up with the Thunderbirds on Sunday, January 31st. Barrie picked up one assist as the Rockets downed the T-birds 2-1.

r Barrie’s eight points over the last four games has him sitting in a tie for 1st among WHL defenecman in scoring with 58 points (13 goals, 45 assists) in 45 games. He also became the Kelowna Rockets all time leader for scoring by a defenceman, surpassing Josh Gorges’ mark of 152 points (245 games), on Friday night; Barrie has now accumulated 156 career points in 184 WHL regular season games. The Rockets have won six straight games and sit sixth in the WHL Western Conference with a 25-25-2-2 record for 54 points.

r Barrie, an 18-year-old from Victoria, British Columbia, is currently playing his third season with the Kelowna Rockets. He was drafted by the Rockets in the 1st round – 18th overall at the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft and was recently selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the 3rd round – 64th overall at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

r The WHL has also nominated Kraymer Barnstable of the Red Deer Rebels for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Barnstable posted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week with one shut-out, stopping 40 shots faced for a 0.000 goals-against average and a remarkable 1.000 save percentage. Barnstable, a native of Kelowna, British Columbia, has appeared in 20 games this season posting a 9-3-0-1 record with two shut-outs.
