Trio of former Rockets set to battle for 2021 Stanley Cup
As the 2021 NHL Stanley Cup Final kicks off tonight at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, three Rockets alumni are prepared to compete for the Cup – Shea Weber, Luke Schenn and Cal Foote.
After 16 seasons in the NHL, Weber will make his first appearance in the finals.
The Sicamous, B.C. product is looking to add to his trophy case, having already won two WHL Championships (’03, ’05), one Memorial Cup (’04), a World Junior Championship (’05), one World Championship (’07), a World Cup (’17) and a pair of Olympic gold medals (’10, ’14).
The six-time All-Star could potentially become the 30th player to join the Triple Gold Club, having previously won at the Olympic Games and World Championship.
After winning with Tampa last season, Schenn is hoping to become the first Rockets alumni to win back-to-back cups.
While Weber and Schenn did not play together on the Rockets, Schenn joined the team at the 2005 Memorial Cup and roomed with Weber.
Sticking with the defence theme, former Kelowna captain Cal Foote has joined the Lightning as a member of their taxi squad for their playoff run. The 22-year-old made his NHL debut earlier this season, appearing in 35 regular-season games with Tampa.
