Rockets at WJC: Czech Republic and Canada claim victories on day three
All three Rockets players were victorious on the third day of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Alta.
Canada remained perfect with a 3-1 win over Slovakia, they’re now 2-0. Rockets defenceman Kaedan Korczak was an even plus/minus rating in 11:06 ice time.
Jordan Spence (Cornwall, P.E.I./Moncton, QMJHL) opened the scoring just over four minutes into the game. Philip Tomasino (Mississauga, Ont./Oshawa, OHL) scored late in the third period and added an assist. Jack Quinn (Cobden, Ont./Ottawa, OHL) sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Devon Levi (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que./Northeastern University, HE) made 17 saves.
Canada’s next game is against Switzerland on Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
The Czech Republic upset Russia with a 2-0 win. Prince George Cougars Filip Koffer opened the scoring for the Czech team in the second period, Martin Lang of the Moose Jaw Warriors extended their lead in the third.
Novak had three shots on goal in 10:23 of ice time. Krutil was +1 with a shot on goal in 20:26 of ice time.
The Czech Republic will be back in action on Dec. 29 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT when they take on the Americans.
