Rocket Recap: Rockets blank Royals 5-0 to open season
The Kelowna Rockets opened their 24 game schedule with a 5-0 shutout over the Victoria Royals on Friday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, BC.
Cole Schwebius was perfect on the night, turning aside 19 shots to pick up the second shutout of his WHL career.
Alex Swetlikoff and Andrew Cristall both had multipoint nights. Cristall, who made his WHL debut, picked up a pair of assists on both of Swetlikoff’s goals.

Quiring (1) netted the Rockets first goal of the season, and the first of his WHL career, jamming home his own rebound just 2:48 into the game. Less than four minutes later, Elias Carmichael (1) added to the Rockets lead by launching a bomb from the blueline.
Swetlikoff (1) widened the Rockets lead just seconds into the second frame. Jake Lee (1) cashed in on the Rockets third powerplay of the game just before the end of the period. Kaedan Korczak picked up his 100th WHL point, notching an assist on Lee’s goal.
Swetlikoff (2) added his second of the night just before the midway point of the third period to put the Rockets in front 5-0.

The Rockets penalty kill was perfect on the night, shutting down the Royals four times. Kelowna’s power play went one-for-five on the night.
Kelowna outshot Victoria 35-19.
Noah Dorey, Rilen Kovacevic, Scott Cousins, Tyson Feist and William Irvine were the Rockets scratches.
Suzanna Lyago of Kelowna was the winner of the Rockets 50/50, taking home $1328.00 of the total pot of $2656.00 with the winning number of B-2914157.
Kelowna will be back in action when they hit the road to face the Vancouver Giants at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops BC at 6:00 p.m. PT on Sunday, March 28.
