The Kelowna Rockets will be looking to snap a four-game winless streak on Tuesday night when they host the streaking Victoria Royals at Prospera Place.
Kelowna was last in action on Saturday against the Seattle Thunderbirds. After trading leads, the Rockets tied up the game and pushed ahead late in the third period with the go-ahead goal coming from Tyson Feist. Feist’s goal—which was declared a good goal—was reviewed, causing a stoppage in play that created a momentum shift for Seattle coming out of the brief pause. The Thunderbirds scored back-back-to-back goals, including the game-winner, under a minute apart in the two shifts following the Rockets goal.
The Royals have gone 7-0-2-0 over their last nine games, with six of those needing overtime to determine a winner.
They played Vancouver in a home and home series over the weekend, downing them 4-3 on the road on Friday and 5-2 at home on Saturday. Their goaltender tandem split the weekend; Campbell Arnold made 37 saves of 40 shots on Friday and Tyler Palmer stopped 30 of 32 on Saturday.
In Saturday night’s contest, Vancouver jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Royals responded with five straight goals, including an empty netter in the final minute of the game. Evan Patrician, Tanner Scott, Bailey Peach, Riley Gannon and Brayden Schuurman all scored for Victoria.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO MET
Kelowna kicked off an eight-game point streak with a 5-4 overtime win over the Royals on October 30 at Prospera Place. Pavel Novak posted his second career WHL hat-trick to help push the game to extra time where Jake Poole scored the game-winner in the dying seconds of three-on-three sudden-death overtime. Colby Knight stopped 20 of the 24 shots he faced and picked up an assist on the game-winning goal.
