Alumni Weekend This Week

r Kelowna Rockets of all different ages are set to converge on the Harvest Golf Course this Thursday and the Capital News Centre on Sunday as the annual Kelowna Rockets Alumni Weekend is set to go.

r As many as 50 former Kelowna Rockets, from Stanley Cup champion Duncan Keith to former brick wall netminder Kelly Guard will be in attendance at this week's events, one private and one open to the public.

r Thursday's 10th Annual golf tournament has been sold out for months as the players will team with fans and hit the links at the Harvest for 18 holes on Thursday.

r Then Sunday fans are invited to the Capital News Centre in Kelowna for the 9th Annual alumni hockey game, which promises to be entertaining, especially with the talent in town.

r Joining Keith and Guard are Shea Weber, Josh Gorges, Tyler Myers, Vern Fiddler, Travis Moen, Jamie Benn, Cody Almond and Blake Comeau in an impressive list. Other names from the past include Jason Deleurme, Kris Mallette, Kiel McLeod and Cam Paddock.

r In all more than 5- former Rockets and plenty of current players will be in attendance in an event that has raised over $100,000 for Kelowna General Hospital since its inception.

r This year proceeds from the Rockets Alumni Weekend will go to the Orthopedic Ward at Kelowna General Hospital for the first year as the Rockets pledge to raise $200,000 over the next five years for the orthopedic ward.

r “We’re very proud to be able to continue our partnership with Kelowna General Hospital and help raise money for the orthopedic unit,” said Anne-Marie Hamilton, Kelowna Rockets director of marketing.
