Schaefer, Beauchesne wearing the ‘C’ for Canada at World Under-17 Hockey Challenge
Hockey Canada unveiled captains for its two national men’s under-17 squads on Thursday, with a pair of OHL players wearing the ‘C’ this year.
First overall 2023 OHL Priority Selection choice Matthew Schaefer of the Erie Otters will lead Canada White, who fell 4-3 in a shootout against Czechia to open the tournament on Thursday. The 6-foot-1, left-shot defender from Stoney Creek, Ont. has one goal through his first 13 games with Erie this season. Schaefer scored his first career OHL marker on Oct. 12th in Niagara where he grew up watching his older brother, Jonathon, play for the IceDogs.

Guelph Storm defenceman Quinn Beauchesne is wearing the ‘C’ for Canada Red. The 16-year-old from Ottawa, Ont. was selected by the Storm with the 14th overall pick of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Beauchesne has one assist through his first 11 games in Guelph.
Schaefer and Beauchesne are part of a group of 17 OHL players competing for Canada at the annual national under-17 tournament that takes place this year in Charlottetown and Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
