OHL Mourns the Loss of John McDonald
The Ontario Hockey League is mourning the loss of long-time scout John McDonald, who passed away on Sunday, October 29th at the age of 92.
McDonald was a long-time head scout of the London Knights, but scouted in the Ontario Hockey League for 41 years, doing so as far back as 1979 when he had a hand in identifying present day London Knights GM Mark Hunter as the first overall pick of the Brantford Alexanders.
McDonald, who was a retired Ottawa Police Officer, served as head scout of the Knights dating back to 2000 when Mark and Dale Hunter first purchased the franchise. He was inducted into the Don Brankley London Knights Hall of Fame in 2020.
McDonald was the beloved husband of Geraldine for 68 years prior to her passing in 2022. He leaves behind four children, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The OHL extends thoughts and condolences to John’s family and friends.
